Fashion HIstory

Andre Leon Talley is the most asked for fashion extraordinaire in the fashion industry. The American editorial writer was born in Durham, North Carolina raised by his grandmother. Tally experienced his first start in the fashion business after attending Brown University with a degree in French. He started networking with close friends for the Rhode Island School of Design and was associated with Diana Vreeland who was the Vogue editor in chief of vogue and costume institute. Becoming one of the few African American journalist at WWD he explained that, " From the female staffers at WWD, who were very insecure about who I was," he told Constance C.R. White in an Essence interview years later. "I just kept going. I once overheard someone say, 'Why is Karl Lagerfeld writing to him? What common interest could they have?' I met Karl Lagerfeld through Andy Warhol in 1975. We became friends and still are." The maven also started working for Interview, and The New York Times before landing the Vogue fashion news director position. Five years later he was named the creative director. He is as well a great spokesperson for more diversity on the runways, along with the diversity is beautiful cause in the fashion industry. The achievements of his goals helps others to succeed in a industry where barriers are held up for many individuals. Talley still is established with Vogue to this day.
